Mount Kenya Trekking Packing List
Proper preparation is essential for a safe and enjoyable expedition. Each participant is responsible for bringing the personal gear listed below.
Weather and trail conditions can vary significantly depending on the mountain, season, and elevation. Research the local climate and expected conditions before your expedition. Even during summer climbs, daytime temperatures can be warm while nights and summit conditions may be cold. During shoulder seasons and winter months, participants should be prepared for consistently cool to cold temperatures.
This packing list follows a layering system to help regulate body temperature and adapt to changing weather conditions throughout the expedition.

Gear Provided by BlueSky
The following group gear will be provided by BlueSky and does not need to be brought by participants unless otherwise instructed:
□ 3- or 4-season expedition tents
□ Water purification system (filter and/or purification tablets)
□ Group food and meal planning for the expedition
□ Backpacking stoves and fuel (Jetboil, MSR WhisperLite, or equivalent)
□ Cook pots and group kitchen equipment
□ Matches and lighters
□ Navigation equipment (maps, GPS devices, and route information)
□ Group first aid kit
□ Emergency communication equipment (when applicable)
Porters will assist with carrying group gear and may also help carry a portion of participants’ personal gear.
As a result, participants will typically carry a lighter pack than they would on a fully self-supported expedition.
Participants should still come prepared to hike with their full-size trekking backpack (50–70L) and should be capable of
carrying their personal gear throughout the expedition if circumstances require. BlueSky will provide guidance before departure
regarding pack weights and gear distribution.
Packing Tips
Pack all clothing, electronics, and sleeping gear in waterproof dry bags or stuff sacks.
Use multiple small stuff sacks rather than one large bag to improve organization and accessibility.
Avoid cotton clothing whenever possible. Synthetic and wool materials perform significantly better in mountain environments.
Keep essential items such as rain gear, warm layers, water, snacks, sunscreen, and a headlamp easily accessible during the day.
Test all gear before departure to ensure proper fit and functionality.
Waterproofing your sleeping bag and insulation layers is one of the most important steps you can take to stay comfortable and safe.
Remember
Mountain environments are unpredictable. The best preparation is to pack for a range of conditions while keeping your kit lightweight and organized.
A well-packed backpack will help you stay comfortable, safe, and focused on the adventure ahead.
At BlueSky, we believe that adventure creates opportunities for growth, resilience, deeper relationships, and a greater awareness of God’s presence
in His creation. Come prepared not only for the physical challenge of the journey but also for the personal and
spiritual growth that often happens along the way.
Important: While BlueSky provides group equipment and porter support, participants are responsible for bringing all required personal clothing, sleeping gear, backpacks, eating utensils, water bottles, personal medications, and other items listed in the personal gear section. Arriving with the proper equipment is essential for both comfort and safety in the mountains.
