Overview:

The Camp Operations manager plays a vital role in ensuring the smooth, safe, and efficient running of all camp operations. This position oversees the logistical and practical aspects of camp life  including facilities, transportation, supplies, and safety systems so that campers and staff can fully focus on experiencing adventure, community, and spiritual growth.

Working closely with the camp director and program team, the operations manager coordinates the behind-the-scenes details that make every camp day possible. From managing staff schedules and equipment maintenance to ensuring clean cabins and timely meal service, this role requires strong organization, teamwork, and a heart for service.

Above all, the camp operations manager models Christ-centered leadership, creating an environment where excellence, stewardship, and joy reflect the mission and values of Camp BlueSky.Our campers are multinational students living in Nairobi, Kenya, and across East Africa. Nairobi’s diversity shaped by the presence of the United Nations, numerous embassies, and international schools—creates a unique opportunity for ministry. Many of our campers are children of diplomats, military personnel, business and government leaders, and missionaries. They represent the next generation of global influencers who need to encounter Christ and grow deeper in their faith.

As an operation manager , you’ll have the opportunity to serve in a multicultural ministry environment, learning and growing alongside a seasonal team of international peers under the guidance and mentorship of the Camp Director.

Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate the daily camp schedule, transitions, and timing of activities.
    Ensure all camp areas (activity zones, dining hall, cabins, etc.) are prepared and functional each day.

  • Oversee equipment, supplies, and facilities to ensure readiness and safety.

  • Troubleshoot logistical challenges as they arise during camp sessions.

  • Work closely with the program team, counselors, and other staff to ensure smooth execution of daily programs.

  • Communicate clearly across departments in Brackenhurst (kitchen, maintenance, admin, conferencing, etc.) to keep operations synchronized.

  • Communicate audio/visual needs and report any technical issues related to other program spaces.

  • Assist in training or orienting seasonal staff on operational procedures.

  • Support enforcement of camp safety policies and emergency procedures.

  • Conduct safety checks of equipment, facilities, and activities.

  • Report and coordinate responses to any disruptions of utilities such as hot water or electricity in areas used by campers and staff.

  • Help ensure compliance with health and safety standards at all times.

  • Track and organize supplies for programs, activities, and maintenance needs.

  • Manage the inventory system for equipment and materials.

  • Communicate purchasing or repair needs to leadership in a timely manner.

  • Assist with camper arrival, check-in, and departure logistics.

  • Encourage unity, joy, and excellence within the camp community.

  • Support staff in creating a welcoming and Christ-centered environment.

  • Work with the activities coordinator and Brackenhurst to ensure firewood and kerosene are purchased and available for Summit Fires.

  • Advise head chef of daily meal counts for all programs, including on-site and off-site camps (e.g., Kenya/Kili and One Day Camp).

  • Collaborate with the camp nurse to ensure medical supplies and medications are purchased and replenished as needed.

  • Step in where needed to serve campers or staff modeling flexibility and servant-hearted leadership.

  • Support the mission and values of the camp through prayer, example, and service.

  • Participate in staff devotionals, worship, and discipleship opportunities.

  • Oversees daily mail operations, ensuring all mail is sorted and distributed efficiently to campers everyday.

    Qualifications:

  • A self-professing Christ follower, actively involved in a Christian faith community and actively pursuing Christ on a consistent basis.

  • Heart for the nations with proven spiritual leadership experience.

  • Passion for adventure and the outdoors, along with a deep commitment to Christian faith and values.

  • You must be aged 19 years and above.

  • Previous experience at Camp BlueSky as a Program Aide or Counselor is an added advantage.

  • Calm under pressure and able to adapt quickly.

  • Dependable, detail-oriented, and proactive.

  • A servant leader who thrives behind the scenes.

  • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills.

  • Be able to address issues and conflict that may arise between Camp Staff and Brackenhurst

  • Must be patient and have compassion for campers and fellow staff.

  • Knowledge of camp programming and familiarity with camp activities is an added advantage.

  • Ability to work cooperatively  with other staff members and integrate into the camp’s community.

  • Passionate about supporting Gospel-centered ministry through operations excellence.
